Challenges and Trends in Test Management | Rajesh Sivaraman QMS Quality Management Consulting |
||
There have been so many new and innovative methods of software testing introduced in the past decade that it is difficult to know exactly which ones are good, which ones are better than others and finally which ones to select as the methodology of choice to deliver the best value to our clients and business community when implementing solutions and maintenance changes. It all boils down then to understanding what our customers want and need, considering our various options and deciding how to go about actually doing it. Despite many advances in the field of software engineering and quality, we are faced with a number of testing challenges which must be overcome if user quality expectations are to be met in today's world. The presenter will open the presentation with some thought provoking questions on whether we need management or leadership and put it in the context of testing and quality related issues. She will then discuss some of the major challenges facing the industry today such as (1) rising quality expectations (2) mounting security threats and attendant testing requirements (3) increasingly complex and interconnected systems (4) date-driven projects and (5) organizational apathy and antipathy towards testing. The author will outline several pragmatic approaches (including the risk based testing) that she has used to address these issues, and will share her experiences to stimulate discussion around comprehensive solutions to these challenges. |
